OK, this is the main music you will have to use. One can add in another piece, but majority of the review, this song has to be used up in full. BBC production orders. Now, the question is this: what two cars would you review and where would you review them?

Rules:

Your first car for this test will have to be MY2014 to MY2018 cars , from tier 2 sports cars (the cars directly above the Miata in performance and price) to hypercars , as well as super saloons/wagons and superfast sport touring cars (like the Bentley Continental GT). Convertible models are allowed in.

The second car, then, will have to be a comparable car from the same manufacturer, from MY1950 to MY1999 .

Provide a Google Maps link to the road you’ll be driving on. This will be the route you’ll be driving the two cars on—it’s essentially a there-and-back route.

There. Easy, isn’t it?

Here are my review cars:

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

And the road?

Kinja'd!!!

This is !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . A spirited 6-hour drive to beat the sunrise (in the 365 Daytona) and the sunset (in the GTC4 Lusso), running the southeast and north side of Laguna de Bay, on twisty switchback roads.

If I’m allowed hot hatches in the ‘tier 2 sports car’ category - there are plenty that are directly above the MX5 in performance/price, after all - then:

Kinja'd!!!

Peugeot 208 GTi (the ‘By Peugeot Sport’ edition)

vs

Kinja'd!!!

Peugeot 106 GTi (The 205 comparison’s been done to death, and I think some angle on Peugeot’s ‘lost’ 90s GTis - cars that were popular and extremely well-received in their day, but have since been forgotten about in favour of their iconic forebear - could work.)

Kinja'd!!!

The road would be the A4086 in Wales. Suitably dramatic, I think:

OK, so looking over the lyrics, the modern car needs to be something heretical (“Homes, places we’ve grown/All of us are done for”), but good (“We live in a beautiful world” and “Oh, all that I know, there’s nothing here to run from”). A turbocharged automatic hybrid is ideal for this (although only two of those are actually required I’d say).

The old car needs to be the opposite of that. High-revving naturally aspirated engine, manual, all that jazz. It needs to be the homes, the places we’ve grown - the embodiment of the things that we’ve worshipped in cars.

The modern car: McLaren P1 (turbocharged automatic hybrid):

Kinja'd!!!

The old car: McLaren F1 (high-revving NA, manual, pure):

Kinja'd!!!

The road: I almost want to say the Snaefell Mountain Course - you need a faster course for these things. Do it when the roads are closed already for the Isle of Man TT.

So, here’s a link to that: https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?…

Definitely the CT6 and a Coupe Deville.

I would Film and drive on the long stretches of open road in eastern Washington, Seattle, and Montana.

Subaru WRC STI plus 1996 Outback Wagon.

STI tearing down the switchbacks, gravel flying, shown in slow motion. It is trying to catch up to the Outback which is barrelling towards the edge of the cliff. Only one comes back. A bit if Thelma and Louise flavor, which, by the way, was filmed at Dead Horse Point not far from the bottom of these switchbacks.

You know, I actually thought of the NSX for my own answer, but I thought that the consensus was that the new one was too heavy, and I wanted the song to reflect the conclusion of the review, that the new things were nothing to run from.
